Magkakaron ng “Authorized Blowout” sa church namin this Monday and Bro. Anton told me to prepare a message, plan daw nila na pag preach ako. Matagal ko na nagawa ito and added some supporting verses, I hope maging blessing sa makikinig at ma exalt ang ating Lord Jesus Christ.
Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known. (Deuteronomy 11:26-28)
Sa verse na yan makikita natin talaga yun kahalagahan ng obedience dahil sa blessing and curse. Alam ko walang naghahangad ng curse but why are we finding hard to obey God? Do you believe that God will bless us if we obey what He is telling us in His word? Then why are we finding hard to obey Him? Do you find His commandments complicated? Then why are we finding hard to obey Him?
Why do we need to be obedient? As being member of the body of Christ, kailangan natin maging obedient kasi may nagiinatay na members ng body para makapag function ng maayos. Consider your own body, isa lang ang mag malfunction ay affected lahat. So being obedient is not only what we gain for but what you can contribute.
Para mas maintindihan natin ang importance ng obedience, let’s get some of the commandments from Colossians.
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. (Colossians 3:18)
Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. (Colossians 3:19)
Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. (Colossians 3:20)
Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. (Colossians 3:21)
Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God: And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons. (Colossians 3:22-25)
Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven. (Colossians 4:1)
Every individual has certain commandment from God for us to be blessed and to be a blessing. Those commandments are specific, but many Christians didn’t enjoy the blessings prepared for them because they are “pakialamero”.
1. Our model of being obedient is not Jesus.
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, (a.) thought it not robbery to be equal with God: (Our problem and will always be our problem is how we think we are. Sa isip pa lang talaga dun na masusukat ang pagiging obedient. Many times na deceived tayo ng sarili nating thoughts na tayo ay someone at hindi na natin kailangan sundin ang mga commandments Nya kasi hindi para sa atin yun.) (b.) But made himself of no reputation, (May reputation ka pa bang iniingatan? Or mga kasalanang nag bother sayo para wag sumunod? If you really do believed that Christ died for all of it, you have to claim that. If you’re in Christ, you’re a new man) (c.) and took upon him the form of a servant,(Not just thinking about it, or telling everyone that you don’t care or you don’t value your reputation anymore but show it of being a servant.) and was made in the likeness of men: (Philippians 2:5-7)
2. Our standard of obedience is not the cross.
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. (Philippians 2:8)
Sabi ni A.W. Tozer “My friends, what we need is not more instruction; we’ve been instructed to death.” Sa binasa nating mga commandments meron na bang time sa buhay nyo na halos ikamatay nyo na? Young people, may inutos na ba si nanay or si tatay na halos ikamatay nyo na. Ngayon kung itatanong nyo kung hanggang saan kailangan kayo mag obey, you’ve been instructed to death. Let’s get some verses reagarding death:
According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: (Philippians 1:20-23)
For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. (2 Corinthians 5:1)
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. (2Corinthians 5:8 )
And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them. (Revelation 14:13)
3. Our measurement of blessing is temporal.
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:9-11)
Loving, submitting, obeying, provoking not, giving – do you think God will command you that for nothing? God can give you more than what you expected like what He gave to our Savior Jesus Christ. Glory to His obedience!
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. (Hebrews 12:2-3)
